Bernalillo County is preparing for possible service changes as PNM considers a Public Safety Power Shutoff in the East Mountains on Tuesday, March 18. If the shutoff occurs, non-emergency services in Bernalillo County might be adjusted, affecting programs at East Mountain BernCo Community Centers.

Currently, PNM has not decided to proceed with the power shutoff. The company will inform potentially affected customers if they decide to implement it to reduce wildfire risks during extreme weather conditions.

In case of a power shutoff, certain BernCo facilities will close for programming. However, spring break programs at these locations will start as usual at 7 a.m., and parents or guardians of enrolled children will receive notifications about any changes.

PNM has also modified system settings to be more responsive to vegetation and debris that could contact electrical equipment. This adjustment may result in longer restoration times during outages due to necessary manual inspections and repairs for system safety. Residents are advised to stay informed about conditions and prepare for potential service disruptions.
