City Council President Dan Lewis has taken steps to address concerns over the misuse of federal funds by referring the matter to the United States Attorney. The issue involves discrepancies found by the City of Albuquerque Inspector General concerning American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Child Care Stabilization Fund grants.

Lewis communicated these findings in a letter to U.S. Attorney Alexander Uballez. He stated, "My office is referring this investigation to the U.S. Attorney due to allegations of federal crimes involving the abuse, misuse, and theft of federal funds allocated to high-ranking members of the Keller administration."

The funds in question were meant for early childhood programs but allegedly were redirected as bonuses for staff within Mayor Keller's administration. Lewis urged U.S. Attorney Uballez to initiate an investigation into potential misconduct by city employees, emphasizing the need for public trust in how tax dollars are managed.
