Daily target range fees at Albuquerque's Shooting Range Park will see an increase starting January 1, 2025. The adjustment affects adults, juniors, and seniors with a $2 rise per person. The new fee for adults will be $8, while juniors and seniors will pay $7. Other fees at the park remain unchanged.
This marks the first fee hike since July 1, 2001. The City Council approved the increase as part of legislation for the FY25 City budget (R-24-36). It is expected to add about $30,000 annually to the General Fund.
“This modest fee adjustment is long overdue as costs to operate the park have risen substantially over the years,” stated Parks & Recreation Department Director Dave Simon.
The costs for park supplies like wood, paper targets, clay targets, target frames, and cardboard have surged significantly. A case of clay targets previously priced at $4 now costs $18.
Located on Albuquerque's West Mesa, Shooting Range Park offers a secure environment for individuals of all ages to learn shooting sports and safe firearm handling. Managed by the City's Open Space Division, trained staff are always present to ensure patron safety.
While user fees do not cover capital projects, various improvements are underway at Shooting Range Park. Atrisco Road access was repaved recently; repairs were made to the water system; new signage was added; and enhancements to safety communication and Wi-Fi systems are ongoing. Building renovations for training purposes start November 1, alongside plans for a new archery range in development.
