Job Training Albuquerque (JTA), a workforce initiative by the City of Albuquerque in partnership with Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), has achieved significant milestones since its inception in 2020. The program has enrolled over 2,000 employees from more than 300 local small businesses, leading to the creation of over 1,100 jobs and generating more than $50 million in additional earning power.

Participating businesses have reported an average wage increase of 25.76% for employees who completed JTA programs. These outcomes underscore the program's role in bolstering the local economy and expanding career opportunities in sectors like technology, hospitality, healthcare, and construction.

“The city’s investment in our workforce is making a real difference for our small businesses and their employees,” stated Mayor Tim Keller. “This program isn’t just about training—it’s about creating lasting economic impacts by giving workers the skills they need to succeed and helping businesses grow.”

Tracy Hartzler, CNM President, commented on the collaboration: “The Job Training Albuquerque program continues to deliver impressive results for Albuquerque small businesses, employees in our community, and our local economy. We’re proud of this terrific partnership with the City of Albuquerque that helps local employers connect their employees with free upskilling opportunities that improve business productivity and bottom lines while also empowering employees with new skills that elevate their career prospects."

JTA offers various skills-based training programs at no cost to small business owners and staff. Businesses with up to 500 employees can apply for courses ranging from business management to technical certifications. In response to industry needs, JTA expanded its offerings in 2024 to include hospitality training through a partnership with the New Mexico Restaurant Association. This expansion aims to address workforce shortages in restaurant and hospitality sectors. Additionally, JTA added Grant Plant as a provider offering federal grants management training.

Justin Hilliard, Workforce Development Liaison for the City of Albuquerque remarked on these achievements: “Hitting these milestones shows our City is committed to empowering residents with the skills they need to thrive. The significant wage increases and job creation show that this program has continued to grow and get results.”

Since launching, JTA has supported economic development by equipping businesses and workers with essential training resources needed for growth in a competitive market environment.
