University of New Mexico announces Welcome Back Days schedule for August

The University of New Mexico’s Welcome Back Days are set to return this year, marking the beginning of the 2024 fall semester. Hosted by UNM's Student Activities Center, these events provide new and returning students an opportunity to explore campus offerings.

**Friday Night Live**

Scheduled for Friday, Aug. 16 from 7-10 p.m. at the Student Union Building (SUB), this event will feature karaoke, a DJ, Henna Tattoos, laser tag, photo booths, and presentations from UNM sports teams and student organizations.

**Class Crawl**

On Sunday, Aug. 18 after the First Year Convocation at the SUB North Mall, new students can print their class schedules and take personalized campus tours to avoid getting lost on their first day.

**Movie on the Field**

Also on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 8 p.m., students can watch "IF" starring Ryan Reynolds on Johnson Field. A second showing is scheduled for Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. in the SUB Theater.

**President's Ice Cream Social & Department Information Day**

This event will be held on Monday, Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Duck Pond. Students can meet UNM President Stokes and other university leaders while enjoying free ice cream. Information booths will be available from noon to 1 p.m., along with live music during that hour.

**Safety, Health, Wellness and Recreation Day**

Taking place on Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this event at Duck Pond and SUB Mall will include safety demonstrations, recreational activities, and health alternatives provided by various departments. Free watermelon will be available at noon courtesy of UNM Children’s Campus with live music from noon to 1 p.m.

**UNM Communities Day**

On Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., students can learn about ethnic centers, women’s centers, veteran services, LGBTQ centers, culturally based programs, departments, and student organizations at Duck Pond. Pepsi products and green chile stew will be served starting at noon until supplies last with live performances from noon to 1 p.m.

**North Campus Welcome Back Day**

Also on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., students are invited to visit information booths outside Fitz Hall while enjoying free watermelon and Pepsi products.

**Student Organization Day**

Set for Thursday, Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this event allows students to meet ASUNM Student Government leaders and discover over 350 student organizations on campus at Duck Pond with free Pepsi and Dion’s pizza served starting at noon until gone along with live music.

**Campus Employment and Community Service Day**

On Friday, Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., students seeking campus jobs can connect with university departments hiring for work-study and student employment positions while community organizations recruit volunteers for various causes at Duck Pond with free donuts sponsored by Alumni Relations and Alumni Association starting at 9 a.m., followed by free Pepsi products over the noon hour.
