For the first time in a couple years, residents of Albuquerque will be able to experience in-person Fourth of July experiences.

Restrictions like the ones implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic are no longer in place, according to a report by KOB 4 News.

“It’s even more special this year because we’re finally able to do it together," Lawrence Rael, chief administrative officer of Albuquerque, told KOB 4.

City officials said there will be several activities to keep people occupied.

“We’ve got live music starting at 4 p.m.,” said Dr. Shelle Sanchez, the city's director of arts and culture. “We’ve got our headliner, which is Shenandoah. There’ll be lots of food trucks, but you can also bring in your own food, just no glass (or) glass bottles, and you can’t bring in any alcohol."

Free activities will include bounce houses, a rock wall, and face painting, KOB 4 reported. Residents should bring money for food and parking.

A fire advisory currently in place could damper the celebration for some. City officials hope the advisory prevents residents from setting off fireworks, KOB 4 reported. Those that do, however, are asked to do so safely.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal Kris Romero, shared some firework safety advice.

“Fireworks should only be used on paved or barren areas away from homes, vegetation, and combustible materials," he said.
