The Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce recently chose a new board chairman, according to Albuquerque Journal.

Peter Lorenz is a veteran solar industry executive and consultant. The 51-year-old native of Germany is CEO of Albuquerque-based company Unirac Inc. He has worked for solar and other energy-related companies in the U.S. and Europe since 1996.

Lorenz said he has positive ideas on how to improve the community.

“I think it’s the role and responsibility of companies to make our communities better,” he told Albuquerque Journal. “We don’t have to wait for politicians or legislators to tell us what to do. If we have the ability to reshape our communities in positive ways, we should do it.”

Terri Cole, Chamber president and CEO, praised Lorenz.

“He’s extraordinarily thoughtful, energetic, and committed,” she said. “Those are exactly the traits the Chamber chair needs to do the job successfully.”

Lorenz and his family moved to Albuquerque in 2012. He strived to build an employee-centered and family-oriented atmosphere at Unirac, which won awards for the company.

The Chamber of Commerce works with “government, business, and community partners to promote and develop a welcoming business environment and a thriving, diverse economy in New Mexico,” according to its website.
