Today New Mexico Is the 18th State to Legalize the Use of Recreational Marijuana

Marijuana

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office issued the following announcement on April 2.

Although marijuana use has been legalized, it is still illegal to operate a motor vehicle under the influence.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and DWI-directed patrols from April 1st, 2022, through April 30th, 2022. Deputies will be looking for people driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs to reduce the number of impaired driving-related crashes and fatalities on our roadways.

The Sheriff’s Office strongly believes in the importance of saving lives through proactive strategies and encourages citizens to take an active role in their community and report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. We need your help; if you consume alcohol or drugs, do not drive, and have a plan to get home safe.

Please utilize rideshare services and avoid drinking and driving at all costs. Through personal responsibility and proactive policing, we can make Bernalillo County a safer place to drive.
