Abuse

Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on March 26.

Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit detectives received a callout on March 9th, 2022, at UNMH. A family had taken Stromy Torres's (21) 2-year-old son to the hospital for extensive bruising. UNMH CART found a skull fracture, healing humeral fracture, and other injuries. Torres initially lied to detectives that Steven Gallegos (31) did not watch the child because Gallegos is on parole for child abuse resulting in homicide out of Santa Fe County. Torres later changed her story but was still lying about the incident.

Both Torres and Gallegos were arrested for Child Abuse with great bodily harm and conspiracy to commit a felony. Gallegos was also charged with violating his parole.

The child is expected to recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.
