The University of New Mexico’s Parking & Transportation Services (PATS) has introduced a new bike valet service aimed at supporting sustainable transportation options for students, staff, and faculty. The pilot program began on August 18, coinciding with the start of the fall semester.
Located on the east side of Popejoy Hall’s main entrance and near the Student Union Building (SUB), the Bike Valet provides a free, staffed parking option for bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, e-scooters, and other micromobility vehicles. The service is available to members of the UNM community on Central Campus and can accommodate up to 128 vehicles.
According to PATS, “The Bike Valet pilot program is a part of a broader effort to encourage efficient and eco-conscious commuting across campus.” The initiative is funded by the Student Fee Review Board (SFRB) and will operate through July 30, 2026. During this period, PATS will collect feedback from users as well as data on usage patterns to help guide potential expansion.
Key features of the program include free use for all eligible campus members, trained attendants during operating hours from Monday to Friday between 7:45 a.m. and 6 p.m., controlled access limited to authorized staff, and a check-in process that requires claim tickets and valid LoboCards. All vehicles must be retrieved by 5:45 p.m. each day. The valet remains closed overnight on weekends, university holidays, or in cases of inclement weather or campus closures.
Registration is required for those wishing to use the service. Interested participants must complete registration in person at the Bike Valet during operational hours by presenting their LoboCard along with basic contact information and their vehicle.
PATS has partnered with the Office of Sustainability in inviting feedback from users as they evaluate how best to shape future transportation offerings at UNM.
