The University of New Mexico (UNM) Honors College will hold its annual Honors Week from October 27 to 31, 2025. The week is designed to showcase the interests and expertise within the college and to encourage connections among students around the themes of community, curiosity, and creativity. Regular classes will be suspended during this period as students participate in a variety of events.
Faculty members will organize nearly 50 activities throughout the week, ranging from academic workshops to recreational events such as scavenger hunts and pickleball games. Students are required to attend at least two events but may participate in more if they wish. Attendance will be tracked using student ID card swipes.
Some featured events include “Mini Explora,” an interactive science session led by Carmen Sorge; Narcan training with Amy Farnbach Pearson, which addresses opioid overdose prevention methods; and “Medieval Mischief: Performing Mankind,” where Richard Obenauf introduces students to a classic English morality play.
Other scheduled sessions cover topics such as hip-hop music production, tabletop role-playing games, writing workshops, e-textiles creation, and an open mic night hosted by Scribendi staff. Scribendi is described as “a nonprofit, annual print publication that features creative work from undergraduate honors students nationwide. It began as a publication of the University of New Mexico and has grown to include more than 800 institutions in the Western Regional Honors Council and National Collegiate Honors Council.”
For those interested in learning more about these or any of the other approximately 40 events planned for Honors Week, additional details can be found on the Honors College Event Calendar.
