The University of New Mexico Children’s Campus (UNMCC) has received a $10,000 donation from the Bank of Albuquerque through its Guide to Giving Program. The annual initiative allows bank employees to nominate local non-profits for funding. This year, UNMCC was nominated by Josh Miera, a bank employee and parent whose son attends the campus’s PreK program.

Kyle Beasley, market CEO for Bank of Albuquerque, explained that the program is intended to let employees support causes they value in their community. “Their selection reflects not just their values, but their firsthand understanding of the impact this non-profit has on the people around us,” he said.

Miera shared that his son Leo was diagnosed with autism nearly a year ago and expressed concerns about how Leo would be supported at school. Those concerns eased after an early conversation with Leo’s teacher. “Kim was kind, empathetic and immediately made us feel heard and supported,” Miera said.

Daniela Baca, director of UNMCC, thanked both the bank and its employees for the contribution and acknowledged Miera’s role in securing it. “On behalf of UNM and the Children’s Campus, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Bank of Albuquerque and the generous employees who made this incredible gift possible,” she said. “Your support means so much to us. Thank you for believing in our work, our families and the importance of early childhood education.”

According to Miera, UNMCC welcomed Leo’s service providers into his classroom and fostered an inclusive environment. “The staff at UNMCC has been kind, supportive and created an inclusive environment for Leo,” he said.

Beasley added that he appreciates what UNMCC offers to children in the area. “UNMCC is both inspiring and impactful, and he is grateful for the chance to help further their mission,” he said.

The Children’s Campus holds national accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and is rated as a five-star licensed early childhood program in New Mexico.
