The University of New Mexico will hold its annual UNM Big Give on April 9, a 24-hour event focused on philanthropy and community engagement. The initiative brings together alumni, faculty, staff, fans, and supporters worldwide to raise funds for student programs, research, patient care, and broader community needs.

UNM Big Give is designed to highlight the impact of collective giving. The university encourages donors to contribute during this period through challenges and matching opportunities that can unlock additional funding for areas such as the Student Health and Counseling Center, UNM Grand Challenges, Patient Care initiatives, and more.

Jeff Todd, President and CEO of the UNM Foundation said: “UNM Big Give reflects the strength and spirit of the Lobo community. It’s a day when generosity turns into opportunity, supporting our students, advancing research, enhancing health care, advancing athletics, and strengthening the programs that serve New Mexico. Every gift helps move UNM forward.”

Supporters are invited to participate by visiting unmbiggive.unmfund.org or engaging in special campus events at participating food locations throughout early April. In 2025’s campaign—according to university data—2,556 alumni and supporters surpassed a goal of 2,500 unique contributors by raising over $1 million in one day. The collaboration with UNM Athletics’ Lobos Give Day raised more than $363 thousand for student-athlete scholarships.

The University of New Mexico has over 200 thousand alumni worldwide who have contributed significantly in their fields according to the official website. Its athletics program competes in the Mountain West Conference with notable venues like University Arena as reported by the official website. The institution also serves as a cultural resource through libraries and museums while promoting diversity according to its official site.

With more than 24 thousand students enrolled across main and branch campuses as of spring 2023 according to university data, UNM is recognized among top public schools nationally—including high rankings for primary care medical education as noted by U.S. News & World Report via the official website. Its campus features Pueblo Revival architecture within a metropolitan setting as described on its website.

Organizers say every contribution during UNM Big Give plays an important role in shaping opportunities at the university now and into the future.
