The University of New Mexico is preparing for the arrival of students moving into campus housing ahead of the fall semester. The move-in period will take place from Friday, August 8 through Saturday, August 16, and is expected to result in increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic on campus.
UNM Parking & Transportation Services (UNM PATS) has announced changes to parking access during this time. The A/E-lot at Central and Girard will be closed from Thursday, August 7 to Saturday, August 16 to accommodate resident check-ins. “A” permit holders are directed to use the Cornell Parking Structure, while “E” permit holders may park in the “R” zones.
The R-lot near Hokona Hall will see congestion as residents and their visitors unload belongings. The C-lot near Zimmerman Library will serve as an exit point for vehicles using Roma Avenue or the “Resident Pedway.”
Campus Resident parking permits have transitioned to a virtual system; license plates now serve as parking permits. Holders of “S” (Lomas Parking Structure) permits must visit the Business Office to collect a proximity card for structure access. More information about license plate recognition technology can be found at goto.unm.edu/lpr-tech.
There will also be road closures and delays during move-in days. Southbound East Redondo Drive will be closed from Campus Boulevard northeast of Casas del Rio to Princeton Drive northwest of R-lot. Redondo Drive along Johnson Field and the Redondo Roundabout near Casas del Rio will be used as entrance points for unloading vehicles.
Drivers are encouraged to use Girard Boulevard when traveling southbound on the east side of campus. PATS enforcement officers will provide traffic and permit control throughout move-in days.
The PATS Business Office will operate with modified hours on Saturday, August 9 and Saturday, August 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
