University of New Mexico School of Engineering announces alumni award celebration for March

The University of New Mexico School of Engineering is set to hold its annual Distinguished Alumni Awards on March 27. The event, which recognizes notable graduates and highlights the impact of philanthropic contributions, will take place at Sandia Resort and Casino.

Donna Riley, who serves as the Jim and Ellen King Dean of Engineering and Computing, will host the ceremony. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the awards presentation starting at 6:30 p.m.

This year, tickets are available free of charge due to sponsorship support. Attendees are required to RSVP by March 18 through goto.unm.edu/2026tickets.

The honorees for this year include Girum Urgessa from the Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering; R. Dennis Vigil from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering; John M. McGhee from the Department of Nuclear Engineering; Eileen Higgins from the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Aaron Clauset from the Department of Computer Science; George E. Gorospe Jr., recipient of the Young Alumni Award in Mechanical Engineering; Brady Key, recipient of the Young Alumni Award in Computer Science; Doug Campbell, Roger Koerner, Gerald May, and Mahmoud Reda Taha as recipients of the Spirit of Philanthropy Award.
