The University of New Mexico announced on March 31 that it will launch the UNM Commuter Survey starting April 1, seeking input from staff, students, patients, and the public about commuting to campus. The survey is part of the university’s parking and sustainability initiatives during Earth Month.
The effort aims to gather feedback that could help shape future transportation resources and support sustainability goals. Anne Jakle, director of the UNM Office of Sustainability, said, “As part of the University’s commitment to our Sustainability Strategic Plan, we want to explore new resources and transportation options for anyone visiting the campus. Feedback can help inform future implementation of the plan, specifically the goal to reduce reliance on single-occupancy vehicles for commuting to campus.”
Participants in the survey will have a chance to win one of four $50 gift cards to the UNM Bookstore. The survey can be accessed at https://goto.unm.edu/commuter-survey-2026 and will remain open until May 1.
According to its official website, The University of New Mexico has more than 200,000 alumni worldwide who include fellows of national academies and contributors to major publications. The university enrolled over 24,000 students across its main and branch campuses in spring 2023 according to official data.
UNM is also recognized for its athletics program—the Lobos—which competes in the Mountain West Conference. Its University Arena is ranked among top college basketball venues according to official sources. In addition, UNM serves as a cultural resource through libraries, museums, galleries, performance spaces while promoting diversity and community engagement as stated by university officials.
The campus features Pueblo Revival architecture and a nationally recognized arboretum with popular locations such as a duck pond situated within a metropolitan area according to information provided by UNM. Nationally ranked among top public schools with recognition from U.S. News & World Report—including being placed sixteenth for primary care medical schools—UNM continues efforts toward enhancing sustainability practices as reflected in this new commuter initiative.
