Bernalillo County Emergency Management has announced that two of its members, Paul Herrera and Kenneth Martinez, have successfully graduated from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National Emergency Management Advanced Academy (NEMAA). The program focuses on leadership, collaboration, and strategic emergency management.

Herrera started his studies at FEMA’s Advanced Academy in Colorado, while Martinez attended the program at the Emergency Management Institute in Maryland. They completed their final courses online together. Their graduation brings a wealth of knowledge and experience back to Bernalillo County’s emergency management efforts.

The Advanced Academy is part of FEMA’s Emergency Management Professional Program. It prepares mid-level emergency managers for leadership roles through a year-long curriculum that includes four resident courses and distance learning assignments covering advanced concepts in program management, integrated collaboration, and strategic thinking.
