Time is running out for residents to sign up for Bernalillo County’s 11th Annual Sugar Skull Fun Run, scheduled for Sunday, October 26 at 8 a.m. The event will take place along Tingley Drive between Central Avenue and Eighth Street.
The Sugar Skull Fun Run is a Día de los Muertos-themed event open to runners, walkers, families, and pets. Participants can choose between a timed 5K or an untimed one-mile Strut and Stroll. The gathering aims to bring the community together.
Bernalillo County Animal Care Services will be present with adoptable dogs available for participants in the one-mile walk. Those interested may sign up to walk with these animals in hopes of helping them find new homes.
In addition to the run and walk, attendees can expect food trucks, music, and the Muerto Market featuring local artisans and vendors. Pets are allowed during the stroll, and participants are encouraged to wear Día de los Muertos attire.
Packet pick-up will occur on Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sports Systems located at 6915 Montgomery Blvd. NE in Albuquerque.
This is a rain-or-shine event with no refunds offered.
Meanwhile, issues concerning public safety continue in Bernalillo County as the District Attorney has voiced frustration over suspects violating GPS monitor rules but still being released back onto the streets. In one case involving Jawid Yaqubi—who was accused of aggravated assault after allegedly firing a gun near his mother—the DA’s office sought custody until trial but a judge chose release instead (https://www.krqe.com/news/crime/bernalillo-county-da-frustrated-over-suspects-breaking-ankle-monitor-rules/).
