Gabrielle Domingo Kashuba is set to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of New Mexico College of Nursing. She completed her degree through the online RN to BSN program, which caters specifically to working nurses.
Originally from the Philippines, Kashuba moved to the United States about ten years ago in pursuit of better educational opportunities. "I always knew I wanted to be a nurse, even before I could write," she said.
Kashuba's interest in nursing began during childhood and was further solidified during her time in nursing school. As she gained experience, her passion for teaching others grew. "I love teaching. Whether it's a student, a new nurse, or a patient, I enjoy helping others learn," she stated.
Balancing work and studies was challenging for Kashuba as she often worked long shifts while completing her coursework online. However, support from family and professors helped her persevere. "A BSN allows you to do so much more – whether it's travel nursing or specializing in different areas of care," Kashuba explained.
Looking ahead, Kashuba hopes to pursue a master's degree, potentially in forensic nursing. For now, she remains focused on excelling at bedside nursing and making an impact on her patients' lives. "There's always something new in nursing," she noted.
Kashuba faced personal challenges during her journey; notably losing her grandmother before graduation. Despite this loss, she feels pride for herself and gratitude towards those who supported her journey. "I'm proud of myself... but I couldn't have done it without my family," she expressed.
Her story is one of perseverance and dedication—qualities that serve as an inspiration to others pursuing their dreams amidst challenges. To those struggling along similar paths, Kashuba advises: "When times get tough... take a step back... then get back to work."
