The Department of Senior Affairs is reaching out to the community this holiday season, encouraging participation in its Annual Holiday Donation Drive. The initiative aims to collect essential items for older adults in need.

Anna Sanchez, Director of Senior Affairs, emphasized the importance of the drive: “We know the holidays can be a difficult time for many of our older adults, especially those experiencing social isolation. By collecting these essential items, we’re able to bring a little holiday cheer to their homes and make sure they feel supported.”

Items being collected include protein drinks, socks, hygiene products, and household supplies. These donations will be assembled into care packages for low-income and homebound older adults in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County.

Mayor Tim Keller highlighted the community aspect of the drive: “The holidays are a great time to reflect on what it means to be part of a community. Lending a hand to our senior neighbors, helping them feel valued and cared for, is what OneAlbuquerque is all about.”

Donations are accepted until November 27, 2024. Contributions can be made online via Amazon or dropped off at any Albuquerque senior or multigenerational center.
