The two proposals to amend the City Charter that appeared on the 2024 ballot have been approved. One amendment alters the process for hiring and firing chiefs of police and fire, while the other addresses how disputes over separation of powers between a mayor and city council are resolved.

The language used in the ballot did not clearly convey the details of these amendments, leading to potential confusion. As a result, these changes might require judicial review. Despite this, councilors decided against allocating funds for voter education that could have clarified these proposals for the community.

"Transparency is a cornerstone of our democracy, and we've heard concerns that the language on the ballot was too vague," stated Mayor Tim Keller.
