Monica Etsitty-Dorame, an inspiring graduate, has defied odds and embraced challenges to achieve her dreams. With roots in Diné culture, Etsitty-Dorame embodies the saying, ‘T'áá hó'ájitéégóó, t'éiyá,’ emphasizing self-determination and hard work as key drivers of success.

Having worked at Zimmerman Library for 35 years, Etsitty-Dorame's journey to earning a Doctorate in Philosophy in Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences (OILS) is a testament to her perseverance and dedication. Reflecting on her accomplishments, she acknowledges the importance of persistence, family support, and personal drive in reaching her goals.

Etsitty-Dorame's academic pursuits were not without challenges, as she navigated language barriers and academic setbacks. However, with the unwavering support of her family, including her husband, daughters, and matriarchs, she continued to push forward towards her aspirations.

Her dissertation, focusing on Native women in leadership roles, is a tribute to her heritage and the influential women in her life. Through her research, Etsitty-Dorame aims to empower other women to embrace their leadership potential and contribute to their communities.

Despite facing personal losses and health setbacks, Etsitty-Dorame's determination remained unshaken. Her resilience and commitment to her education have culminated in the achievement of her lifelong goal of earning a doctorate degree.
