UNM Health Celebrates Health Care Workers Week

In a show of gratitude and appreciation, The University of New Mexico Health System is commemorating Health Care Workers Week from May 6 -12, 2024. The week is dedicated to honoring the tireless efforts and invaluable contributions of the healthcare professionals within the UNM Health System.

Expressing his admiration for the diverse team at UNM Health, Doug Ziedonis, MD, MPH, EVP of UNM Health Sciences and CEO of UNM Health System, stated, “I am so humbled and honored to work with such a diverse group of learners, educators, providers, collaborators, researchers, innovators.”

Kate Becker, UNM Hospital CEO, highlighted the significance of Health Care Workers Week for the staff, saying, “This is a special time of year when our amazing staff get a few moments in their day to relax, unwind and enjoy some fun activities at the hospital.”

During this celebratory week, a range of activities and events are planned for the healthcare workers at UNM Health. Jessica Mickey, Employee Engagement Specialist at UNM Hospital, shared her enthusiasm for the occasion, stating, “Health Care Workers Week is my favorite time of year.”

Jamie Silva-Steele, President of UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center, expressed her gratitude towards the healthcare workers at SRMC, emphasizing their dedication to patients and their families, “Day in and day out they dedicate their passion and skills to our patients and their families.”

Dr. Gary Mlady, Interim President and CEO of the UNM Medical Group, Inc., commended the professionalism and dedication of the medical group, stating, “I am so proud to be part of such an incredible group of professionals who make it their mission to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of all New Mexicans.”

Dr. Yolanda Sanchez, Director & CEO of the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, expressed gratitude towards the staff, acknowledging their efforts in caring for patients, supporting research collaborations, and training the next generation of healthcare professionals.

As part of the week-long celebrations, various events and activities are planned across different UNM Health facilities to acknowledge and appreciate the hard work and commitment of all healthcare workers. The festivities aim to provide a moment of relaxation and enjoyment for the dedicated staff members who strive to deliver high-quality healthcare to the community.
