Albuquerque, Apr 24 2024 - On Monday, April 22, 2024, ABQ RIDE celebrated Earth Day by partnering with a 4th grade class from Lew Wallace Elementary School in a special flower planting project at the Alvarado Transportation Center. Transit Director Leslie Keener emphasized the importance of creating a clean and safe environment, stating, “Providing a clean and inviting environment for travelers and commuters who make their way through the Alvarado Transportation Center is a key factor in promoting safety within ABQ RIDE.”

Keener also expressed gratitude for the collaboration with the elementary school, saying, “We are honored to partner with Lew Wallace Elementary School on this project and work together to clean up and revitalize our downtown community.”

Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency Director Terry Brunner highlighted the significance of working with future leaders, stating, “As we work hand in hand with our future leaders, we're cultivating a vibrant and welcoming environment at ATC, a key component of our city’s Downtown Core. Together, we're transforming downtown Albuquerque through our attention to green space and community partnerships.”

The event included planting over 100 annual flowers with the help of 21 students, who were later treated to a box lunch and goodie bags. ABQ RIDE plans to continue beautifying the ATC by restoring landscaping in medians and pedestrian walkways in the coming weeks.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, ABQ RIDE aims to be the top choice for transportation services in the Albuquerque Metropolitan area. Through initiatives like the flower planting project, the department seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, alleviate traffic congestion, and build a resourceful and sustainable community.
