Miquela Ortiz Upston, a social worker for the Dean of Students Office, announced that the social work internship team will be hosting two Well-Being Workshops focused on starting careers and accessing affordable food. The workshops are scheduled for this Thursday at 1 p.m. in the DOS Conference Room at the University Advisement and Enrichment Center.

"The Well-Being Workshops were developed by the social work internship team in the Dean of Students Office to address different topics related to basic needs to help support our students so that they can be successful academically and outside of the classroom," explained Ortiz Upston.

The upcoming workshop will feature guest speaker Marty Apodaca from University of New Mexico Career Services. The first workshop will provide students with insights on how to kickstart their careers, while the second session will focus on budget-friendly meal preparation and guidance on applying for SNAP benefits. Attendees will also have the opportunity to prepare a simple affordable recipe and take home recipe cards.

Ortiz Upston credited the inspiration for these workshops to the work of Dr. Cargas and her team, who have been dedicated to providing data on this important topic area.

These workshops are the result of the hard work of social work interns who have spent months researching and developing ways to support student needs, starting with a review of the Basic Needs Report published last year.
