The Parks & Recreation Department (PRD) is on the lookout for 50 enthusiastic individuals to fill summer lifeguard positions at its various pools by June 1, 2024. The department's Aquatics Division offers lifeguards the opportunity to learn essential lifesaving skills, effective communication, and leadership qualities. It also provides the chance for year-round work and flexible scheduling.

"Our associate director started with us as a lifeguard and worked her way up," shared PRD Director Dave Simon.

Applicants for the lifeguard positions must possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First-Aid/AED Certification, be at least 15 years old (with a worker's permit if 15), and successfully pass an Aquatics Lifeguard Skills Test. To aid aspiring lifeguards in obtaining the required certification, the department is offering eight American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program classes in April and May. The fees for these classes will be waived for those interested in working for the City.

For those interested in pursuing a career in lifeguarding and joining the PRD team, more information and the application process can be found on the City jobs website. Don't miss the opportunity to dive into this fulfilling and important role in ensuring the safety of pool visitors this summer.
