The Public Library of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County, in collaboration with the Friends of the Public Library, is gearing up to celebrate El Día de los Niños, a week-long multicultural celebration of children and literacy starting from April 24 to April 30. A total of eighteen library branches will be hosting special events dedicated to children and families, featuring a variety of activities such as storytellers, crafts, music, and more. One of the highlights of the event is that children attending will have the opportunity to take home a book of their own, while supplies last.

The significance of this celebration was highlighted by the organizers: "El Día de los Niños (Día) is a celebration of children, families, and reading. The celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds. It is a daily commitment to linking children and their families to diverse books, languages, and cultures." Furthermore, it was noted that "Día is an enhancement of Children’s Day, which began in 1925."

The event schedule includes various activities spread out across different library branches, such as bilingual storytelling sessions, crafts, music, and more. Notable events include a Flamenco demonstration with Bridgit Lujan at Cherry Hills Library on Friday, April 26, and a Costume party and craft for all ages at Taylor Ranch Library on the same day.

Families and children interested in participating in these events can find more information on the official website of the Public Library of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County at www.abqlibrary.org.

The celebration of El Día de los Niños is expected to foster a love for reading and cultural diversity among children and families in the Albuquerque area, creating a memorable and enriching experience for all participants.
