APD detectives have made a significant breakthrough in a recent murder case on Albuquerque's West Side. Andrew Chavez, 28, has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death of Armando Salazar on March 24, 2024.

According to reports, officers responded to a call on the morning of March 24 and found Salazar's body near 98th St and 102nd St., N.W. with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Following investigative leads, detectives identified Chavez as the suspect in this tragic incident.

Chavez, who declined to speak to detectives, has been charged with an open count of murder and has been booked into the Metro Detention Center. In a related development, two other individuals present at the scene were also taken into custody. Francisco Tafoya and Gracy Tenorio have been booked on felony warrants.

The investigation led detectives to an apartment on Dickerson Dr., S.E. where a search warrant was executed. This operation resulted in the recovery of crucial evidence, including bloody clothes, phones, a gun, and other items linked to the victim and the stolen car associated with the case.

This swift action by the APD underscores their commitment to bringing justice to the victims of violent crimes in the city. The apprehension of the suspects involved in this heinous act is a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement officials in ensuring the safety and security of the community.
