New Mexico State Representative Stefani Lord has used her social media platform to criticize the state’s education system and legislative response to proposed gun control measures.

On July 30, 2025, Lord posted about New Mexico’s educational ranking, stating, “New Mexico ranked the worst school system in the nation, again! ‘New Mexico ranked last overall on the list. In individual metrics, New Mexico ranked last in math test scores, reading test scores, and median SAT score.’ Congratulations, elected Democrats! You must take immense https://t.co/8ul5ZjpNtD”.

Later that day, she addressed Republican participation in a legislative committee discussing gun legislation. In her post dated July 30, 2025, she wrote: “Unbelievable. @RepBlock and Senator Brantley were the only Republicans who spoke out against blatantly unconstitutional gun grab bills during the Crime & Criminal Justice interim committee. Where is everyone else? Come on, Republicans, DO BETTER! #2A #ConstitutionalRights”.

The following morning on July 31, 2025, Lord clarified her stance with another post: “I should have added ‘future’ before ‘unconstitutional gun grab bills…’ These presentations are to pave the way for more gun grabs, and it’s the legislature’s duty to comment and ask questions! I stand by the lack of commentary by Republicans at the meeting.”

Lord is a Republican who was elected to represent New Mexico’s 22nd House district in 2021 after succeeding Gregg Schmedes.
