The South Broadway Cultural Center in Albuquerque will hold its annual Día de Los Muertos community art exhibition from November 2 to November 21. The event, which began in 1994, marks more than thirty years of the center’s involvement in celebrating the tradition of honoring those who have passed.
An opening art reception is scheduled for Sunday, November 2, from 3 to 6 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
According to the City of Albuquerque’s announcement, “The City of Albuquerque’s South Broadway Cultural Center invites the community to its annual Día de Los Muertos community art exhibition, a heartfelt tribute to the Mexican cultural tradition of honoring those who have passed.”
This year’s program includes fifteen ofrendas and a community altar where visitors can add photographs of loved ones. Thirty local artists will present their interpretations of Día de Los Muertos through various media including painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media.
“For more than three decades, the South Broadway Cultural Center has served as a gathering place for remembrance, reflection, and art. Since first hosting Día de Los Muertos in 1994, the center’s celebration has blended community participation with creative expression.”
The event continues a longstanding tradition that emphasizes both remembrance and artistic engagement within Albuquerque.
