The Route 66 Visitors Center will host a series of concerts performed by New Mexico artists, beginning on April 11 at noon, according to an announcement from Bernalillo County. The events are presented by the New Mexico Music Hall of Fame and will take place every Saturday in April and May.
The concert series aims to showcase local musical talent and celebrate the contributions of musicians who have defined the sound of New Mexico. Admission is free, with food trucks and Tractor Brewing providing refreshments for attendees.
Performers scheduled for the event include Ivon Ulibarri and Café Mocha, Son Como Son, Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra, Mariachi Promesa, Picoso, Red Wine Band with David Nunez, Sorela, Hillary Smith & Chill House, Animated Jukebox and others. More information about the schedule can be found on the City of Albuquerque’s website at https://www.cabq.gov/artsculture/events/centennial-concert-series or by visiting https://www.cabq.gov/artsculture/route-66-visitor-center.
While cultural events like these are being organized in Bernalillo County, public safety concerns remain present in the community. The District Attorney of Bernalillo County has raised frustration over suspects returning to the streets without GPS monitors when they are supposed to have one. In one case reported by KRQE News involving Jawid Yaqubi—who was accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly firing a shot over his mother’s head—the district attorney’s office attempted to keep him in custody until trial but he was released by a judge.
The Route 66 Visitors Center’s centennial concert series offers residents an opportunity to gather for music while also highlighting ongoing efforts within the county to address both cultural enrichment and public safety.
