Rep. Melanie Stansbury, who represents New Mexico’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on her social media accounts on February 17 and 18, 2026, reflecting on national figures and community celebrations.
On February 17, Stansbury paid tribute to Reverend Jesse Jackson following his passing. She wrote, “The world has lost a giant. Today we honor the life and legacy of Reverend Jesse Jackson and his lifelong dedication and work for civil rights, justice, and service to humankind. His legacy of courage, compassion, and conviction will live on.

Later that evening, she encouraged public participation in an event by posting “Join us tonight! https://t.co/9AGFNf0Wjj”.
On February 18, Stansbury extended greetings for both Lunar New Year and Ramadan to her constituents and acknowledged local organizations for their role in community celebrations: “As the sun is setting, we want to wish a Happy Lunar New Year to all who are observing. And, a special thanks to @talinmarket and @abqliondance for the New Years celebrations today. We also want to wish Ramadan Mubarak to all who are observing. Melanie Stansbury has served as the U.S. Representative for New Mexico’s 1st District since replacing Deb Haaland in 2021.[source] She previously held office in the New Mexico House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021.[source] Born in Farmington in 1979, Stansbury currently resides in Albuquerque.[source] In recent elections, she secured victories over Steve Jones in 2024 with 56.4% of the vote; Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 with 55.8%; and Mark Moores in a special election in 2021 with 60.4%.
