Rep. Melanie Stansbury has used her social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown, criticize Republican leadership in the House of Representatives, and highlight local events in New Mexico.

On October 4, 2025, Stansbury addressed concerns about healthcare access during the shutdown, stating, “We’re in the midst of a government shutdown, and millions could lose access to healthcare and see their monthly insurance go THROUGH THE ROOF! Why? Because Donald Trump and the GOP want to ‘maximize pain’ and keep the government shut down. Healthcare is a human right. No”.

Later that day, she criticized Republican actions in Congress by posting, “The American people are smart. They know when they’re being lied to. Republicans canceled votes, shut down the House, locked the doors, and are refusing to negotiate. We’re ready to work. Let’s do this, GOP—reopen the House!” on October 4.

Shifting focus from national politics to a local celebration on October 5, Stansbury promoted an event in her state: “It’s Balloon Fiesta time—and we’re ready for our first Balloon Glow!! If you know you know!! And, if you don’t, you gotta get down here and see it for yourselves! #BalloonFiesta #NewMexico #NewMexicoTrue”.

Melanie Stansbury has served as a U.S. Representative after winning several elections: defeating Steve Jones in 2024 with 56.4% of the vote; Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 with 55.8%; and Mark Moores in a special election in 2021 with over 60%. These victories have established her as a prominent political figure representing New Mexico at the federal level.
