Rep. Melanie Stansbury, a U.S. Representative who has won several recent elections in New Mexico, addressed issues of governance, political violence, and national remembrance in a series of posts on her official X account between September 10 and 11, 2025.
On September 10, Stansbury criticized actions taken regarding Washington D.C.’s local governance. She stated: “Not one toe stepped in D.C. City Hall. Not one consultation with D.C. City Council or law enforcement. Not one public hearing. Not one voice from D.C. heard.
Just another power grab dressed up as “public safety.” Since our colleagues seem more concerned with pleasing the White” (posted September 10, 2025).
Later that day, Stansbury condemned an act of violence involving Charlie Kirk: “Political violence of any kind cannot be tolerated in a free and fair society. Rep Stansbury condemns the shooting of Charlie Kirk and is holding all those impacted in her prayers.” (posted September 10, 2025).
On September 11, she marked the anniversary of the September 11 attacks by honoring victims and first responders: “Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11th—a day that forever changed our nation. We honor the first responders, the heroes who ran toward danger, the families who lost loved ones, and the resilience of our communities that came together in the face of unimaginable” (posted September 11, 2025).
Melanie Stansbury has served as a U.S. Representative following several electoral victories; she defeated Steve Jones in the general election held in 2024 with approximately 56% of the vote to Jones’ roughly 44%. In previous years she also prevailed over Mark Moores in 2021 and Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022.
