Representative Melanie Stansbury, who serves New Mexico’s 1st congressional district, reflected on the end of 2025 and looked ahead to the new year in a series of social media posts.
On December 30, 2025, Stansbury wrote, “It’s the final countdown to 2026 and we want to close things out talking about our work to defend our democracy, the Constitution, and the rights of our communities. It’s been a big year. But, we are just getting started, and we hope you’ll join us in 2026! “
Shortly after midnight on January 1, 2026, she addressed her constituents again: “Happy New Year New Mexico! It’s been a big, chaotic, and amazing year and every day I am so grateful to represent NM-01 in Congress. As we look forward to 2026, I want to say THANK YOU to each and every one of you who joined us to share your hopes, dreams, and thoughts for the”
Later that morning, Stansbury added another celebratory message: “Happy New Year!! Here’s to a bright and beautiful 2026!! “
Melanie Stansbury has represented New Mexico’s 1st congressional district since winning a special election in 2021. She secured her seat by defeating Mark Moores with over sixty percent of the vote that year. In subsequent elections—2022 and 2024—she maintained her position by prevailing over Michelle Garcia Holmes and Steve Jones respectively. In the most recent contest in 2024, Stansbury won with approximately fifty-six percent of the vote.
