U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury has publicly questioned the motivations and legality behind recent U.S. military actions in Venezuela, according to a series of posts on her official social media account.
On January 3, 2026, Stansbury wrote: “Regime change. Narcoterrorism. Oil. All of these seem to be competing theories of an Administration seeking to justify the use of the U.S. military to target, invade, and now occupy a foreign country without the consent of Congress and the people. But here’s the thing, we”.
Later that same day, she posted: “Overnight the U.S. President ordered the invasion of Venezuela and capture of its President. While Maduro clearly is a corrupt and illegitimate thug who oversaw the destabilization and suffering of millions, the fact remains that the U.S. President is acting on authority he does”.
On January 5, 2026, Stansbury commented further: “It’s been a fascinating day watching the spin. Here are my hot takes on the news of the day, the latest on Venezuela, and the implications for the American people and global security https://t.co/H4NSu3LThc”.
Melanie Stansbury has served as a U.S. Representative since winning a special election in 2021 against Mark Moores with 60.4% of votes to Moores’ 35.6%. She was re-elected in subsequent general elections in 2022 against Michelle Garcia Holmes (55.8% to 44.2%) and again in 2024 against Steve Jones (56.4% to 43.6%).
