U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury posted a series of statements on August 9, 2025, highlighting concerns about women’s participation in politics and celebrating female leadership in New Mexico.

In an early morning post, Stansbury expressed concern over the actions of the U.S. Secretary of Defense, stating, “Just to be clear, this is the U.S. Secretary of Defense—who multiple women voted to confirm—sharing content advocating for women to not vote. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. This is why we must organize and stay in the fight!” (August 9, 2025).

Later that day, she highlighted New Mexico’s leadership by women in government: “In New Mexico, women are leading the way! As one of the only states to ever have a female majority legislature—with amazing women in leadership—I am so proud to work with these extraordinary women every day and to share the stage with them last night to talk women in leadership!” (August 9, 2025).

Stansbury also marked the anniversary of significant federal legislation benefiting her state: “We’re investing in America! Three years ago today, we passed the CHIPS and Science Act—a once-in-a-generation investment in American innovation and manufacturing—delivering millions to New Mexico! The CHIPS Act is helping rebuild supply chains, create good-paying jobs, and” (August 9, 2025).

Melanie Stansbury has represented New Mexico following several successful elections. She won her most recent general election against Steve Jones in 2024 with approximately 56% of the vote. Previously, she defeated Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 and Mark Moores in 2021.

New Mexico is recognized as one of the few states with a female majority legislature—a point emphasized by Stansbury when discussing women’s roles in political leadership.
