Representative Melanie Stansbury, who has secured multiple election victories in New Mexico’s congressional races, recently used her social media platform to highlight women’s leadership, denounce conversion therapy, and express condolences following a mass shooting.

On August 26, 2025, Stansbury posted about New Mexico’s legislative makeup and the significance of the 19th Amendment. She wrote, “Today, we continue our series on New Mexico’s leadership and celebrate the 19th Amendment—celebrating women in leadership and New Mexico as one of only three states in the U.S. with a female majority legislature. In countless ways, these leaders are transforming our state,”.

Later that day, she addressed conversion therapy practices in the United States. On August 26, 2025, Stansbury stated: “Every single major medical association in America has denounced conversion ‘therapy’ for what it is: a cruel, harmful, and unscientific practice that has no place in modern medicine. As a member of the @EqualityCaucus, I am proud to have joined 186 Members of Congress in”.

The following day, after reports of violence at a school in Minneapolis surfaced, Stansbury expressed sympathy for those affected by the incident. On August 27, 2025 she posted: “Absolutely heartbroken at the news of the mass shooting at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis today, and the loss of two children and at least 17 others injured. Our prayers are with the families and community.”

Stansbury’s posts come amid her continued prominence within New Mexico politics. She won her most recent general election in 2024 against Steve Jones with 56.4% of the vote to Jones’ 43.6%. Previously she defeated Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 with nearly 56% of votes and Mark Moores in a special election held in 2021 with over 60%, underscoring her electoral strength across multiple cycles.
