U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury recently used her social media platform to highlight legislative efforts, community events, and the role of small businesses in New Mexico. Stansbury is known for her electoral successes, having defeated Steve Jones in 2024 with 56.4% of the vote, as well as previous victories over Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 and Mark Moores in 2021.

On August 2, 2025, Stansbury posted about legislation aimed at protecting Social Security benefits. She stated, “Hands Off Social Security! THIS is *exactly* why we filed the ‘Hands off our Social Security Act’ right before we left DC. Social Security is a lifeline for 68 million Americans. And we won’t let them take it away. Our bill: -Stops privatization  -Protects your benefits” (August 2, 2025).

Later that day, she acknowledged the anniversary of the Small Business Administration (SBA) and its impact on local economies. In her post, she wrote, “The @SBAgov is celebrating its anniversary! In New Mexico, small businesses are the backbone of our communities. From small family restaurants to local artists, the SBA helps turn dreams into economic engines. Every day we’re proud to support our local businesses and SBA’s work” (August 2, 2025).

On August 3, Stansbury reflected on participating in a community event celebrating San Juan Nepomucena and the Matachines in Chilili. She posted, “We love our Land Grants! And, are so honored everyday to share in the culture and history of our amazing communities. It was a beautiful weekend to join Chilili in celebration of San Juan Nepomucena and the Matachines. Thank you for having our team!” (August 3, 2025).

Melanie Stansbury has represented her district since winning a special election against Mark Moores in 2021 with over sixty percent of the vote and has continued to secure re-election against challengers such as Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 and Steve Jones in 2024.
