U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury, who represents New Mexico’s 1st congressional district, posted several updates on her social media accounts at the end of August 2025 regarding federal investments in local infrastructure and ongoing initiatives to combat hunger in New Mexico.
On August 29, 2025, Stansbury announced federal funding for a local airport: “Big news for Carrizozo! The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded $333,000 to the community to upgrade its airport and install a precision path indicator system! Airports are hubs for trade, travel, and connectivity, and I’m grateful for these upgrades!”
Later that day, she addressed her constituents about political developments and efforts underway: “Friends—it’s been another crazy week in politics and we’ll be talking in the coming days about how we’re working to protect vital programs, our democratic rights, and fighting against corruption. But, today we’re closing out our series on New Mexico and how we’re investing in https://t.co/txKDQi4Xn8” (August 29, 2025).
On August 31, Stansbury reflected on anti-hunger efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic: “#throwback: Five years ago at the height of the pandemic, we organized a statewide food and hunger program to help feed New Mexicans. Five years later, this food and agriculture network continues and has helped pass some of the boldest anti-child hunger legislation in the https://t.co/LJlkjJqoKd”.
Melanie Stansbury was first elected to Congress in a special election held in June 2021 after defeating Mark Moores with approximately 60% of the vote. She retained her seat by winning subsequent general elections against Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 with nearly 56% of votes cast and Steve Jones in 2024 with over 56% support from voters.
Her recent posts highlight ongoing federal investment into local communities such as Carrizozo as well as long-term commitments toward reducing child hunger through sustained policy efforts.
