U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury has used her social media platforms to highlight her participation in Climate Week in New York and to address concerns about an impending government shutdown. Stansbury, who represents New Mexico’s 1st congressional district, posted a series of tweets between September 22 and September 23, 2025.

On September 22, Stansbury acknowledged the start of Climate Week with a tweet stating, “Happy Monday! It’s Climate Week in New York. This week, national, global, local, tribal, non-profit, and private sector leaders are all convening to talk about climate change, climate action, and the work to ensure a just transition. Later that day she announced plans for a live discussion on Instagram regarding climate issues: “Friends—I’ll be LIVE on Instagram tomorrow talking all about Climate Week! Have any questions on climate change or climate action? Comment down below! Tune in tomorrow on Instagram at 5pm MT / 7pm ET! The following day, Stansbury shifted focus to the ongoing budget negotiations in Congress. She wrote on September 23: “We’re seven days from a government shutdown, and Republicans are refusing to negotiate, canceling votes, and playing political games with American lives. Meanwhile, the President is giving dangerous and unhinged speeches at the UN—and sabotaging our global standing. We need our https://t.co/ed0ApPcLZ0”.

Melanie Stansbury has secured her seat through multiple election cycles. In 2024 she won against Steve Jones with 56.4% of the vote; previously she defeated Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 with 55.8%, and Mark Moores in a special election in 2021 with over 60% of the vote.
