Representative Melanie Stansbury, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, posted a series of tweets on January 7 and 8, 2026, addressing recent actions in congressional oversight and expressing concern over an incident involving an ICE agent in Minneapolis.
On January 7, Stansbury criticized the focus of congressional oversight efforts: “Oversight is back! But once again, failing to hold the real fraudsters to account while attacking our communities and propping up the Administration’s cruel policies on the backs of hard-working Americans. https://t.co/3KfoYjnjCc”.
Later that day, she commented on the priorities set by House Republicans following a busy session: “After a full day in Oversight, including new subpoenas in the Epstein investigation, a classified briefing on the invasion of Venezuela, and forcing a vote to protect healthcare, House Republicans have brought us… a bill about showerheads. That’s right—showerheads. https://t.co/ALfhiBeTEy”.
On January 8, Stansbury reacted to reports from Minneapolis: “I am absolutely shocked by the footage in Minneapolis today of an ICE agent shooting a woman point-blank and the dehumanizing false statements given by the Administration in the aftermath. We demand an investigation and that Secretary Noem to appear in front of Congress”.
Melanie Stansbury has served as U.S. Representative after winning multiple elections: she defeated Steve Jones in 2024 with 56.4% of the vote; Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 with 55.8%; and Mark Moores in 2021 with 60.4%. These electoral victories have established her as a prominent figure within her district.
