Representative Melanie Stansbury, who serves New Mexico’s 1st congressional district, recently shared a series of updates and statements on her official social media account. The posts include a birthday message to Senator Heinrich, announcements about upcoming town halls in her district, and comments regarding efforts to protect democratic speech.

On October 17, 2025, Stansbury posted a celebratory note for her colleague: “Happy birthday, @SenatorHeinrich! You are an amazing defender of our public lands and democracy. I am proud to work alongside you in this fight. Enjoy your special day! “

Later that same day, she informed constituents about opportunities for direct engagement: “Friends, I’m home this week and holding multiple in-person and virtual Town Halls in NM-01! Join us in Rio Rancho on Monday, for a virtual and Telephone Town Hall on Tuesday, and in Albuquerque on Wednesday to discuss the latest on the government shutdown and what comes next.” This message highlighted both the locations—Rio Rancho and Albuquerque—and topics such as the ongoing government shutdown.

On October 18, 2025, Stansbury addressed broader political concerns with a call to action: “They are trying to silence speech and the foundation of our democracy and WE WILL NOT LET THEM! Keep marching, keep speaking up, keep speaking out, and keep practicing democracy every day! “

Stansbury has represented New Mexico’s 1st congressional district since winning a special election in 2021. She secured victory over Mark Moores that year with 60.4% of the vote. In subsequent elections—2022 against Michelle Garcia Holmes (55.8%) and 2024 against Steve Jones (56.4%)—she maintained her seat with clear majorities.
