Melanie Stansbury has represented New Mexico’s 1st district in Congress since replacing Deb Haaland in 2021. Prior to her congressional service, she was a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021. Stansbury was born in Farmington, New Mexico in 1979 and resides in Albuquerque.
Since entering Congress, Stansbury has consistently secured re-election victories; she defeated Mark Moores in the 2021 general election with over sixty percent of the vote and won subsequent contests against Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 and Steve Jones in 2024 by notable margins.
