Rep. Melanie Stansbury, a U.S. Congresswoman representing New Mexico’s 1st district since 2021, posted several statements on her Twitter account between July 26 and July 27, 2025, addressing topics ranging from the anniversary of the United States Postal Service to concerns about gerrymandering and a recent fatal shooting in her community.
On July 26, Stansbury marked the milestone anniversary of a federal institution with this message: “Happy 250th Birthday to the United States Postal Service! For generations, the USPS has delivered love, hope, medicine, and essential goods all across the country. It’s more than about mail—it’s ballots, paychecks, and lifelines. That’s why we won’t let Trump and the GOP” (posted July 26, 2025).
Later that same day, she addressed electoral practices by inviting followers to join a discussion on political redistricting: “Today we are going to break down gerrymandering—what it is, what it looks like, and why Trump and the GOP are using it to try to cheat this election. Join me with Jasmine Burton and Elizabeth Booker Houston to break it all down! https://t.co/Tah7k1pxXK” (posted July 26, 2025).
On July 27, Stansbury responded publicly following news of a local tragedy: “Our hearts are heavy following the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old at the University of New Mexico in the heart of our community. Today, our community is grieving. I am sending my deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends and the whole UNM community. “ (posted July 27, 2025).
Melanie Stansbury was born in Farmington in 1979 and currently resides in Albuquerque. She previously served in New Mexico’s House of Representatives from 2019 until her election to Congress in a special election after Deb Haaland’s departure for a cabinet position.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s College of California.
