U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury, who serves New Mexico’s 1st congressional district, recently posted a series of messages on her official Twitter account addressing national politics and her engagement with local communities.

On August 15, 2025, Stansbury criticized former President Donald Trump’s actions in Washington, D.C., stating: “Trump’s DC takeover is a dangerous overreach—designed to scare and distract the American people from his own lawless behavior. We stand 100% with our capital city and the people of DC!”

Later that same day, she reflected on her recent travels across New Mexico: “Happy Friday! 2 weeks, 10 counties, 19 communities—and back to Albuquerque! It’s been such a joy to visit and see so many of our communities and hear from you about your hopes, fears, and dreams for the future. On this Friday—I want to share a little bit about my hometown of”

On August 16, Stansbury expressed gratitude for her role as a public servant: “Each and every day it is such a joy and an honor to serve our communities across New Mexico. This is why we’re fighting for our future and our communities. Thank you to everyone who has joined us across the state and shared your hopes and dreams for the future. We love you all!”

Stansbury has maintained her seat through several election cycles. In 2024, she defeated Steve Jones in the general election with 56.4% of the vote compared to Jones’ 43.6%. She previously won against Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 with a margin of nearly eleven percentage points, and secured victory over Mark Moores in the 2021 special election by almost twenty-five percentage points.
