U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury, who serves New Mexico’s 1st congressional district, provided a series of updates on her official Twitter account this week, addressing local developments in New Mexico, the ongoing Texas redistricting process, and voting rights issues.
On August 4, Stansbury shared an overview of her recent activities and key political topics in her district: “Happy Monday! We’re spending another beautiful week in NM-01 all across our communities. Here’s an update on all the NM haps, what’s happening with the economy, and what the heck is going on with Texas redistricting and its implications for 2026.”
The following day, she expressed support for Texas lawmakers involved in debates over democracy-related legislation. On August 5, she posted: “To all the Texas lawmakers taking a courageous stand for our democracy: Thank You! We stand with you “
Later that same day, marking the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Stansbury highlighted efforts to protect Native American voting rights in New Mexico. She wrote: “Today, on the anniversary of the 1965 Voting Rights Act—we’re talking Native American voting rights with Ahtza Chavez with NAEVA. New Mexico is leading the way with the passage of historic rights legislation! With all eyes on Texas and attacks on voting rights”
Stansbury has represented New Mexico’s 1st congressional district since winning a special election in 2021 against Mark Moores. She was re-elected in both 2022 and 2024, defeating Michelle Garcia Holmes and Steve Jones respectively. In each contest, Stansbury secured a majority of votes.
Her recent social media activity comes as Texas continues to debate redistricting measures ahead of upcoming elections—a process closely watched due to its potential impact on representation and voting access.
