U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury, who serves New Mexico’s 1st district in Congress, shared a series of posts on February 18, 2026, addressing both cultural celebrations and social justice issues.
On the evening of February 17, Stansbury extended holiday greetings to her followers: “Closing things out tonight wishing you all a Happy Mardi Gras! From New Mexico to New Orleans, wishing everyone a joyful and safe celebration!” (posted at 03:59 UTC on February 18).
Later that day, she acknowledged the start of Lent with a message about reflection and community: “Today, on Ash Wednesday, we begin the season of Lent—a time for reflection and renewal. Whether through acts of prayer or service, may this season bring you peace and purpose. To all those observing: we are wishing you hope, clarity, and a renewed commitment to community and a” (posted at 16:44 UTC).
In an afternoon post focused on justice for survivors, Stansbury wrote: “Here’s the bottom line—survivors deserve justice. And, we will pursue justice and accountability at all levels. This is bigger than just one case. This is about changing the system and culture that enabled these crimes to happen. We won’t stop.” (posted at 19:01 UTC).
Melanie Stansbury has represented New Mexico’s 1st congressional district since replacing Deb Haaland in 2021. Before her tenure in Congress began in 2021, she served in the New Mexico House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021. Stansbury was born in Farmington, New Mexico in 1979 and currently resides in Albuquerque.
She has maintained her seat through several election cycles; most recently in 2024 she defeated Steve Jones with approximately 56% of the vote. In previous elections she prevailed over Mark Moores in 2021 and Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022.
