U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury, who represents New Mexico’s 1st district in Congress, recently addressed several national issues on her social media account, including criticism of the current administration’s spending priorities, concerns over gerrymandering and redistricting ahead of the 2026 elections, and the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
On July 25, 2025, Stansbury criticized government spending in a tweet: “The cruelty and lawlessness of this administration seem to know no bounds. Here they are spending hundreds of millions of your taxpayer dollars after the Big Ugly Bill to make corporations rich at the expense of our communities. We are fighting back!”
Later that day, she highlighted efforts to inform constituents about redistricting: “Happy Friday! Today we’re kicking off our multi-day series breaking down what’s happening with gerrymandering and redistricting, its implications for 2026, and how you can help protect the vote. Join me and @RepRaskin as we kick things off today to explain what the GOP’s doing” (July 25, 2025).
On July 26, 2025, Stansbury marked an important civil rights milestone: “Today marks 35 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act! The ADA broke barriers and asserted that disability rights are civil rights. But still work continues: Too many face isolation and discrimination. Too many face economic hardship. Too many cannot access places they”.
Melanie Stansbury has served in Congress since replacing Deb Haaland in 2021. Before joining Congress, she was a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021. Born in Farmington in 1979 and currently residing in Albuquerque at age 44, Stansbury graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California in 2002.
