U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury posted a series of statements on her social media account between September 29 and September 30, 2025, addressing issues ranging from Congressional proceedings to threats against lawmakers and humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
On September 29, Stansbury commented on the status of Congressional votes and the risk of a government shutdown, stating, “We’re here! But guess what? … All the doors are locked as the GOP cancelled votes and is pushing us towards a government shutdown.”
The following day, she expressed support for Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal while condemning threats faced by women of color in Congress. In her post dated September 30, Stansbury wrote, “We stand strong with @RepJayapal. Over the last several weeks we’ve seen increasing threats and violent rhetoric targeting especially women of color serving in Congress. This is not ok! Everyone must stand up against political violence in all its forms!”
Later that same day, Stansbury highlighted an international humanitarian initiative aimed at delivering aid to Gaza. She stated, “The Global Sumud Flotilla is set to arrive in Gaza in the next 24 hours. 50 boats from across the world, bringing aid and food to the people of Gaza.
We are calling for their safe passage, an end to the blockade, and unrestricted humanitarian aid to all those suffering now! The”
Melanie Stansbury has represented New Mexico’s first congressional district since winning a special election in 2021. She secured re-election victories in subsequent years: defeating Mark Moores in 2021 with over 60% of the vote; Michelle Garcia Holmes in 2022 with nearly 56%; and Steve Jones in 2024 with more than 56% support.
